About

Sjoerd Lammers

Sjoerd Lammers (born 1965) is a Dutch photographer whose work is rooted in careful observation. Rather than seeking spectacle, he is drawn to the human-made world and the subtle relationships between people, structures, time and the visible evidence of change.

Working primarily in black and white, his photographs are characterised by clarity, balanced composition and a restrained visual language. He does not direct or construct scenes, but observes with patience and precision, allowing photographs to emerge from what is already present.

His practice consists of three long-term photographic projects, each exploring a different perspective on the human-made world.

CLASSIC B&W STREET places the human at the centre. It observes public space as a stage where gesture, light and timing come together in photographs that seek moments of simplicity, balance and timelessness.

RAW AFTERLIFE examines the built environment beyond complete human control. Through objective black-and-white photography, it records the relationship between human order and autonomous processes, observing how the built environment persists and changes through time, use and environmental forces.

HIPSTAMATIC ANALOG is a personal visual diary created with an iPhone and Hipstamatic. Without a predetermined subject, it embraces curiosity, intuition and spontaneous observation, allowing everyday life to unfold naturally in colour or black and white.

Although distinct in subject matter, all three projects are united by the same philosophy: photography as an act of observation rather than intervention.

Together, they explore three complementary perspectives on the human-made world:

the human.

the built environment.

the personal gaze.
